Cybersecurity Awareness Month: 4 Cybersecurity Habits For SMBs
October isn’t just the start of fall in the Pacific Northwest, it’s also Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a perfect reminder for business leaders to...
Technology has never been so important to businesses and individuals as it is today.
It is difficult to find any company or person that doesn’t rely on technology on a daily, if not hourly, basis. From the cars we drive to the supply of power we enjoy to the work that we accomplish on computers, tablets, and mobile phones, technology has become ingrained in almost everything we do. It’s how we work and how we live, and that technology is increasing exponentially. And yet, we don’t think much of it. It was only 12 years ago that the first smartphone was launched. Today, 95% of 12-year-olds in the US have access to one. The adoption rate of new technology is staggering. Embracing that technology can be to your benefit both in business and personal life.
The flip side of this coin is that, as we become more dependent on technology, the dangers from those wishing to exploit our dependence on that technology will continue to increase. The rise of cybercrimes and the daily appearance of ransomware and hacking in our newsfeeds is indicative of this trend. As technology gets better and changes, so do the tactics of cyber-criminals and the way that they exploit us. Protecting ourselves from the unseen threats that wish to destroy our lives and our livelihoods will become more important in the future.
Every technology advancement brings about new risks. While we should embrace what technology has to offer, we will need to educate ourselves on the immediate threats around us so that we can keep ourselves safer in a quickly evolving, technology-driven world.
