Tek Video: Ransomware as a Service (RaaS)

Tek Video: Ransomware as a Service (RaaS)

Another big, game-changing element of ransomware is that you don't have to be a hacker.

You don't even have to have any technical expertise.

Ransomware as a Service (RaaS)

Ransomware as a Service (RaaS) is a business model between ransomware operators and affiliates in which affiliates pay to launch ransomware attacks developed by operators. The price of RaaS kits ranges from $40 per month to several thousand dollars.

Who has subscription services they pay for now?

Yeah, pretty much everybody.

Guess what? If you wanted to be a bad guy and start hacking businesses, all you have to do is subscribe to a service, and they're calling that ransomware as a service

Ransomware as a Service

So, I can pay for a service, have all the tools at my disposal, and oftentimes they'll even sell me, if I were a bad actor or criminal, they'll even sell me access to networks that they already have available to me.

All I have to do is start running the tool that I have now subscribed to.

So, the barrier to entry for criminal-minded individuals has been reduced significantly.
